Viva Zapatos!

Well, it turns out that there is something right with George W. Bush:
His reflexes are superb.

While holding a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, journalist Muthathar al Zaidi threw his shoes at lame duck President Bush.

Nice reflexes, George!

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki deflected the second shoe.

I rather enjoyed the suggestion of one of Foreign Policy Magazine's readers: he wished that Bush had caught the shoes and threw them back. That would have been better.

Still, pretty good ducking!

Actors in Politics

What is it about Actors and Politics?

Here are a few that have made the leap:

Sonny Bono, Mayor of Palm Springs, US House of Representatives

Jesse Ventura, Governor of Minnesota

Ronald Regan, Governer of California, President of the United States of America

Fred Thompson, Senator, Lobbyist and attorney

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor of California

Ben L. Jones, (Cooter from The Dukes of Hazard) Congressional Representative

And now Fran Drescher is "throwing her hat into the ring" to replace Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton as New York Senator.

With a choice from the millions of Americans who live in this country, are actors really the BEST choice to represent "the common man"? I assume that there are other intelligent, opinionated individuals who might make better public servants.

Palin back on the campaign trail ... Again

Through the campaign I comforted myself with the thought that as with Dan Quayle, Sarah Palin would fade into the chaotic background noise of America.

Unfortunately, this is not coming to pass. I cannot understand why people keep paying attention to this run-on sentence queen.

Keep America safe: Let her slowly fade away.
